Hello Everyone! We’re going tots desi this summer… Mumu Mandarin reached out and wanted me to showcase their dresses for you guys. Mumu Mandarin is like Rent the Runway but focusing on traditional South Asian party wear. They have more collections lined up this July and August which aren’t too formal/party and you can wear them on other more laid back occasions as well. I really like the craft and work on their dresses.
Almost all the collection has that elegant flare to it, where it’s the right blend of party but it’s not very OTT. You can carry it in style and that too on a budget. Our closet is filled with dresses especially desi formal dresses which only comes out during the wedding season and then we don’t’ see it for a year. Plus repeating it is like really not an option, let’s get serious. You can just rent your favorite piece from Mumu’s and then send it back to them when you’re done with your event. Rather than making a hole in your pocket for something that you’re going to wear a few times during the course of a whole year.
How it Works
I will explain how you can rent a dress from Mumu Mandarin. You can go and visit their virtual calendar while looking to book a dress you like. Click on the “Fits Me” button next to the dress to see how it fits and select the size.- Choose a date when you want the dress to arrive at your doorstep. For 4 Days, you can keep it and return it in the same box with the prepaid UPS Label enclosed. You don’t have to pay for the Dry Cleaning and shipping
Make sure you sign up for a membership at their website before booking as you will get 20% OFF if you sign up for a member’s account with them. The membership fee is $30 per month which is added to your account as a balance so its money you can use to rent a dress. The $30 a month builds up in your account and never expires. If you’ve been a member for 3 months, you will have $90 in your account. You can cancel your membership anytime (after 3 months)
I really like the way they ship you these dresses. They come ironed so you don’t have to iron them when you get them. Their packing is amazing! TBH I was very impressed with how carefully they were folded and shipped where you didn’t have to iron them. You can just open your package and they’re ready to wear. I chose the following three dresses from their collection to showcase for you guys. Hope you enjoy them, I know I did…
Camel Gold Chemise – Mumu Mandarin
First dress is my favorite one – Camel Gold Chemise, it was very easy to carry, which is like a major issue when it comes to desi formal wear. You have to walk, bend, sit and almost do everything very carefully or you will ruin the handiwork. This wasn’t the case with this one. I even recorded a video – which I will embed below and you can be judge of that. As I said earlier I took it right out of the packaging and wore it right away, didn’t need to iron it. You can see how it has the right balance of bling and style.
Mandarin Dreams – Mumu Mandarin
Second dress is also my favorite – it’s named Mandarin Dreams! Very aptly named though, I love the pants that come with this dress. They’re very chic and when you walk, it adds a spring to your walk. I also recorded a video wearing this dress and you can see how comfortable I was. Like the previous this dress it has the right amount of bling. I love how the handiwork on it pairs well with the dark color of the dress. It can make any evening just perfect!
Navy Gold Kurta – Mumu Mandarin
The dress is…. Well there is a reason why I saved it for last. This dress honestly doesn’t need a lot of explaining. It really speaks for itself but I will just try and summarily talk how I felt when I wore this dress. This dress is called Navy Gold Kurta! It clearly is a winner and as the name indicates it has gold all over it. But just the right amount where it doesn’t overwhelm the individuality of the remainder of the dress. The dupatta that came with this one really complemented the overall feel of this dress. As I said this dress screams royalty, wear this dress and you will feel like one…
